This square craft for preschoolers is a great activity for kids learning about shapes and colors. It even throughs in some important scissor practice for those little hands. To create this craft, we used basic supplies, like construction paper. This makes it great for the classroom or at home.

We’ve used this technique for lots of fun shapes.

Tips for creating this square paper craft:

These squares are very simple. But here are some tips to help you along the way.

To speed up this craft, you can cut the paper strips ahead of time.
The size of the square we used was about 3″ x 3″. You can let your child choose whichever size they prefer.
Let the kids play around with the colors they want, or the direction the strips go in. There is no right way.
Try switching the construction paper for scrapbook paper.

Square Cutting activity for preschoolers

This fun craft works on scissor skills while incorporating primary colors and the square shape!

Materials

Construction Paper - Red, Yellow, & Blue
Cardstock - White or Black

Tools

Pre-Cut Cardboard Square or Ruler
Glue Stick
Pencil
Scissors

Instructions

Start by cutting a piece of cardstock in half.
On one half, trace your cardboard square or use a ruler to create a square.
Lightly bend the paper in half, pinching inside of the square to cut a slit.
From that slit cut out to the outer edge of the square.
Finish cutting out the square.
Use half sheets of construction paper to start cutting paper strips.
Start gluing the paper strips onto the second half of cardstock.
Glue the cut-out square sheet of paper, pencil mark side down, onto the paper strips.
Trim around the outer edge.

This easy polar bear craft is great for younger kids. It uses basic supplies and simple shapes. It’s a wonderful winter animal craft for the preschool classroom or the kitchen table.

This polar bear craft is so easy you can have the whole class working on them at once. Glue together circle shapes to create a simple animal that kids will love to make.

Finding crafts to get you through those long winter months can be a challenge. This easy craft is a great way for kids of all ages to create during the winter season.

Sometimes the most basic craft is all you have time for. This simple animal craft is perfect for little crafters.

Grab some construction paper and scissors to make the basic pieces. Then glue them together. Finish it off with some paint snow dots and you have an adorable winter polar bear.

You’ll be amazed by how easy this craft is. Plus it sneaks in some important skill-building. Like fine motor skills and cutting practice.

You can use this easy winter craft in several ways.

Tips for creating this animal craft:

These bears are very simple. But here are some tips to help you along the way.

If cutting out the eyes is too difficult for your little ones you can easily just draw them on with a black marker.
If you are trying to create this craft quickly, pre-cut your circles.
Let kids play with the different sizes of circles. They can make a giant polar bear or a bunch of tiny polar bear cubs!
Make different kinds of bears. Swap out the white paper and make a black or brown bear.
Young children may need help creating the rectangle used to make this a 3D papercraft. You may need to assist them.
We used construction paper, but you can use white printer paper if that’s what you have.
Use a piece of painter’s tape to secure the paint palette to the table. This will help keep the white paint in one place.
Play around with different ways to create this fun polar bear craft.
- Maybe make the ears out of cotton balls
- Use puffy paint to draw the mouth.
- Use googly eyes instead of paper.

Circle Polar Bear Craft

Grab some white and black construction paper and get ready to create this adorable polar bear paper craft.

Active Time 15 minutes

Difficulty Easy

Materials

Paper - White, Black, & Background Color (ours is blue)
White Paint

Tools

Pencil
Glue Stick
Scissors
Black Marker
Cotton Swab

Instructions

Start by drawing circles onto the white paper. You need one large circle just a touch smaller than half the sheet. One medium circle. Two small circles.
On your black paper (you can use scraps for this) Draw two small circles and one oval for the polar bear's nose.
Have the kiddos cut out all of their circles. Then glue the large one down on your background first. You will only need a half sheet of paper for each background.
Next, add on your small white circles as ears. Glue these on and tuck them under the edge of the head a bit.
Glue your black oval onto your medium white circle. Use your black marker to finish his mouth.
Glue on your two little circles for the eyes.
Now to make the snout 3D. Take a scrap from your white paper and trim it to a rectangle. Fold in the edges to create a rectangle shape.
Glue one side of your rectangle to the back of the snout.
Then add on your head. Make sure to press the glue tabs down.
Last, come back with a bit of white paint and a cotton swab to add snow!

Notes

If cutting out the eyes is too difficult for your little ones you can easily just draw these on with black marker.

These triangles are very simple. But here are some tips to help you along the way.

We chose secondary colors. But you can let your kids experiment with colors.
Try creating them using different shapes.
Let them play with the different sizes too! They can have a red small triangle, a brown large triangle, and a green small circle!
Younger children may need help cutting the cardboard. You can cut the triangles ahead of time
Use a piece of painter’s tape to create a loop on the backside of your paint pallet. This holds it in place and is really helpful to younger painters.

Torn Cardboard Secondary Color Triangle Craft

Work on pincher strength, talk about secondary colors, and the triangle shape all in one fun craft! Check out a fun way to make it seasonal at the end!

Cardboard
Paint - Secondary Colors - Purple Orange Green

Instructions

Cut your cardboard into triangle shapes. This may need to be done ahead depending on the age of the crafter.
Using the back end of the paintbrush, puncture the cardboard and slip the brush under the top layer.
Pinch and peel off the top layer of the cardboard exposing the inner binding.
You can also pull off along the edges.
Repeat on 3 separate cardboard triangles leaving some of the top layer in place.
Start painting in the solid spaces with one of your secondary colors.
Then, using a smaller brush, paint the lines left behind where the top layer was removed.
Paint a second coat on the solid areas if needed.
These completed projects can be used to talk about shape and color!
BONUS IDEA: Give your green triangles a Christmas twist by decorating them with anything you have lying around. Paper, glitter glue, rhinestones, etc.

This simple sun craft is perfect for little ones. Because it rises and falls with the pull of a string, it becomes a fun toy when you are done.

My daughter has loved playing with her flying witch, floating ghost, and climbing spider.

But now we want something that isn’t seasonal. So we created this fun paper sun.

This craftivity uses simple supplies, which makes it perfect for a classroom craft or a quick craft at home.

Grab some construction paper and a paper tube and create this bright and fun papercraft.

While the kids put together their sun craft, they will be learning about the basic circle shape. Plus, you’ll be sneaking in some good cutting practice and fine motor skill-building.

Rising Sun Craft

Create the fun paper sun and when you are done you can have it rise and set!

Active Time 10 minutes

Total Time 10 minutes

Difficulty Medium

Materials

Yellow and Orange Construction Paper
Cardboard Circle
Cardboard Tube
Yarn
2 Pony Beads

Tools

Glue Stick
Scissors
Hole Punch

Instructions

Stack the orange and yellow paper. Place your cardboard on top of the paper stack and trace a circle.
Fold the paper in half.
Cut out the circle. This should give you 4 even circles, 2 of each color.
Using the rest of your folded paper cut out 2 triangle shapes. This will give you 8 total triangles, 4 yellow and 4 orange.
Add glue to the cardboard circle and attach the triangles around the edge.
Add more glue and glue one of the yellow circles onto the cardboard. This should cover the glued edges of the triangles.
Fold the rest of the circles in half, like a taco shell.
Stack the folded circles orange, yellow, orange with glue in between each layer.
Now glue the outer orange edges to the center of the sun.
Open to get a 3D center.
Cut a paper tube to be shorter than the width of the sun. Punch 4 holes in the cardboard tube. 2 on each side lined up with each other.
Tie a bead onto one end of a piece of yarn. Double the knot so it will not come undone.
Take the other end of the string and go up through both holes, across the top and back down the other two holes. Add a bead to the second end.
Glue the tube to the back of the sun.
Tape the center of the yarn to the wall and grab the 2 beads.
As they pull apart string, the sun will rise.
And Rise!! They can release or bring the hands back together for it to come down.

Instructions

Cut a circle out of cardboard.
Glue your circle onto a piece of yellow construction paper.
Cut around the cardboard. You will now have a yellow paper-covered cardboard circle.
Use a hole punch to create 6 holes. To ensure even spacing, punch your first hole. Then punch a hole across from the first hole. Then place 2 punches in between the first and second holes. Repeat on the other side.
Draw on a happy sun face or decorate any way you like!
Fold each of your pipe cleaners in half. The easiest way to do this is to match up the ends and then pinch in the middle.
Put each side of your pipe cleaner into holes that are next to each other on the sun.
If you are using 2 colors of pipe cleaners alternate the color of your sun rays.
Once you have 2 rays added, flip it over and secure the X they create on the back with tape.
Continue your way around the sun adding your rays and securing with tape.
When you add your last ray in you should have 2 X on the back to finish up.
Flip over and it's complete!

This circle craft for preschoolers is a great activity to help teach about circles. Using primary colors, your child can put together a simple broken circle made out of construction paper.

When you are combining crafts with learning, the easier the better. This construction paper craft doesn’t get much easier.

This craft may seem basic, but it packs in a lot of education while still being fun for kids to create.

Because it uses red, blue, and yellow; it’s a great craft that teaches about primary colors.

While the kids put together the pieces, they will be learning about the basic circle shape.

Plus, you’ll be sneaking in some good cutting practice and fine motor skill-building.

You can use this educational craft in several ways.

Hang them in your playroom or classroom.
Turn them into cute bookmarks.
Create them on half of a sheet of paper and then fold the paper into a homemade card.
Display them on your classroom bulletin board.

These circles are very simple. But here are some tips to help you along the way.

We chose primary colors, but you can also let your child choose their own colors.
You need to use at least 2 cuts creating 3 sections to your circles. However, you can make the project more challenging with more slices.
You can play around with the size of your circles!

Primary Color Circles

Using primary colors, create these fun mini broken circles. Mix and match your puzzle-like pieces to find a good balance between all 3 colors.

Materials

Construction Paper. Red, Blue & Yellow
Sheet of White Paper

Tools

Scissors
Glue Stick
Circle Shape

Instructions

1. Stack the 3 colors of paper, trace a circle onto the top sheet. Then cut them out together.

2. While holding your circle stack cut the circles into at least 3 pieces.

3. Pick one part of the circle, in each color, to glue down to your white paper. Making sure to leave space for completed circles.

4. Play around with your remaining circle pieces to create all 3 circles.

5. You can leave a small amount of white paper showing through as you glue all of your pieces down.

6. When finished you will have 3 fun broken circles created out of your primary colors.

Tips for making primary colors square art.

For younger children, you can pre-cut the squares so they only have to focus on the art project itself.
Older children may be able to hold down the square while pulling the colors. Younger children will benefit from a little roll of painter’s tape.
When cutting out your squares use thicker paper. This will help them keep their shape.

Instructions

Start by cutting one piece of paper into as many squares as you like.
Place a stripe of your pastel along the edge of one of your cut out squares.
Use a smudging tool to pull the color onto your second sheet of white paper. You can secure your square with a bit of painters tape or hold with your finger.
You can also use multiple colors on the same square.
Remove the square to reveal your blue square design!

How to use shapes to make paper gnomes

These easy paper gnomes use simple shapes to create. They are perfect for Christmas crafting, learning shapes, or just an afternoon of fun! Plus they use construction paper, which is one of our favorite craft supplies!

Paper Gnomes

There is something so cute about gnomes and they are popping up all over the place.

We created a fun paper gnome earlier in the season but wanted to make it a bit easier for the younger crafters.

So we are sticking with simple basic shapes to create this cute paper gnome scene.

Construction Paper Gnome Supplies

Construction Paper. White, Brown, Green, and Gnome colors of choice.
Scissors.
Glue Stick.
One Piece of Cardstock. This is to create your scene.
Skin Tone Marker.
.5″ Hole Punch. You could also use scissors here.

Simple shapes gnome craft

Start by cutting out basic shapes. If you need to trace these onto the paper for your kids that works too!

Rectangles for the bodies.

Triangles for the hats. Line up the bottom of the triangle with one of the sides of the squares. This way they are the same width.

Then cut some brown rectangles for tree trunks and green triangles for treetops.

Next to make the beards.

To make sure that the beards are shorter than the paper gnome’s body, set a body on the white paper. Use the body as a guide to draw a line across the bottom of the white paper.

You also want the beards to be the same width as the hats. Place the triangle onto the white paper and draw a few dashes.

If you are making more than one paper gnome, just accordion fold the white paper before you add your dashes.

Then when you cut the triangle, it will cut multiple layers at once!

Cut a wavy line along the width of the same piece of white paper. This will be your snow!

Now it is time to assemble your scene. Use a bit of glue to attach the snow to your background.

Then your trees. Glue the brown trunk down first.

Then add the green tops.

To create each gnome simply glue down a rectangle with a triangle hat right on top. It will look like a little house.

Next, add on the white beard triangle.

Last, on a scrap of your white paper color a bit of your skin tone and punch out a circle for the nose.

Add a dab of glue and place the nose halfway between the beard and hat.

This creates such a fun little scene. You could easily turn these into holiday cards too!

Rainbow Paper Spheres are the perfect addition to our construction paper crafts for kids. From bookmarks to shamrocks, my kiddos are loving all of the fun rainbow crafts we have been doing lately.

Creating these paper spheres is great scissor practice for little ones, so you can squeeze a bit of learning into the activity!

You can use these paper balls for a variety of reasons. We like to toss them around for fun. Here are some other ways to use this easy craft.

String them together to make a garland.

Create paper spheres with these simple step-by-step instructions.

Materials

Construction Paper. One sheet of each color of the rainbow.
Something Circle to Trace
Glue Stick
String (Only if you plan to hang them)
Printable Template (optional)

Tools

Pen
Scissors

Instructions

Stack all of your sheets of construction paper together and trace a circle on the top piece of paper. You’ll need 2 circles per sphere.
With a good pair of scissors, you should be able to cut all of the pages together.
Next, fold all of your circles in half. They will look like tacos… Place your folded circles under something heavy to help give them a good crease. After they have sat a bit, you can start to put them together. Using your glue stick assemble them in order.
Stack them in rainbow order (Red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple) and then do it again.
If you are going to hang your rainbow spheres add the string now. Then glue together the 2 outside edges.
You can string multiple paper spheres together or wrap the string along the inside of one “taco” and tie it off at the top.
