• Cardboard
• Yellow Paint
• 5 Pipe Cleaners per flower
• Tape

Tools

• Scissors
• Hole Punch
• Foam Brush
• Black Marker

Instructions

1. Start by cutting your cardboard into circles.
2. Then use a hole punch to create 5 holes.
3. Paint your cardboard yellow using a foam brush.
4. Once dry, draw on a smile (optional)
5. Start adding your pipe cleaners by sticking the 2 ends in holes next to each other.
6. Continue adding pipe cleaners until you have worked your way all the way around your flower, ending in your first hole.
7. Flip your flower over and tape to secure pipe cleaners in the back.
8. Check out your adorable flower!

Paper Doily Flowers

If you follow along you know that I am a self-proclaimed craft hoarder. I tend to hold onto craft supplies for way too long in the hopes that I might find a good use for them down the road.

I bought a pack of doilies for V’s first birthday party. I used them to decorate her giant V.

These doilies worked perfectly for creating this paper rose craft.

Like many of our projects, this is an easy craft that we’ve snuck some fine motor skill-building into.

This roses are very simple. But here are some tips to help you along the way.

• If you are making a lot, cut the centers out of multiple doilies at once.
• Don’t have twist ties? That’s ok, use small hair ties, rubber bands, or even string to tie the ends together.
• When fluffing the petals, start on the outside and work your toward the middle of the doily
• Use a light touch with the watercolors. You can always go back and add more paint later.
• Experiment with different colors. You can decorate these pretty paper flowers with bright colors, pastels, or even leave them white.

1. Remove the center of the doily.
2. Around the exterior of the doily, make small cuts.
3. Begin to roll the doily.
4. Hold the base tightly as you roll it up.
5. Secure the tight end with a twist tie.
6. Gently fluff down the petals.
7. Lightly brush the tips of the petals with the watercolor of your choice.

Snowflake Flowers

Using the classic snowflake cut out design we are creating a fun flower art project!

Materials

• White or Blue Paper for Background
• Flower Color Construction Paper

Tools

• Pencil (optional for younger kids)
• Scissors
• Glue Stick
• Green Marker

Instructions

1. Fold your construction paper into 4ths. Then make a triangle corner so you can create squares.
2. Cut off the excess paper.
3. Unfold and cut into 4 squares.
4. Fold back into a triangle and lightly fold up the right tip.
5. Then fold up the left tip. This should create a tulip shape. Adjust so that all 3 triangles are the same size.
6. Round off the uneven edges. This will leave you with a teardrop shape.
7. If your child is able to cut the edges of the shape let them go to town. If not let them use a pencil to draw some shapes for you to cut out.
8. Unfold your flowers and arrange them on your paper.
9. Glue down flowers in a few places to secure them.
10. Using your green marker add stems, leaves, and/or vines. Then place grass along the bottom of the paper.

How to Make a Paper Tulip Scene

Grab some construction paper and make a beautiful tulip scene that pops off the paper!

Materials

• Construction Paper - Blue, Green, and Flower Color of Choice

Tools

• Scissors
• Pencil
• Glue Stick

Instructions

1. Start by folding your flower color so that you have 4 layers. Draw on a teardrop shape.
2. Cut out the teardrops and start to layer them. Place the first row to create a wide V and glue.
3. Take a third petal and place right in the center. Glue down.
4. Flip the flower over and place the fourth petal slightly to the side so that the tip shows.
5. With your green sheet of paper, cut two strips the short length of the paper for stems. Then fold the paper in half so it is long and skinny. Cut out two leaves.
6. Next, use a zig-zag cut down the rest of the green sheet.
7. Cut the seem on your grass. You will have 4 pieces of grass when done.
8. Start layering two pieces of your grass on the bottom of the blue sheet. Alternate where the points go.
9. Add on your flower stems.
10. Then place another layer of grass. You can roll the layers forward a bit so it pops off the page.
11. Flip over the blue paper and trim off any grass that hangs over the edge.
12. Now add on your flowers!
13. And last your leaves.
14. You can fluff your flower petals too to help them pop off the page!

We are nearing our move and I’m finding myself looking for pieces of Florida to bring with us. I have tons of seashells, pictures of palm trees, and air plants, but I still wanted something more. While flipping through my vintage art books I saw a chapter on pressed flowers and I was hooked. So I started right away.

This craft is a great spring activity for kids. They can walk around and pick colorful spring flowers, press them, and then arrange them. It’s a great way to work on those fine motor skills.

Plus, any time I can make a flower craft I’m happy. Something about flowers always brings a smile to my face.

• Choose several different shapes, sizes, and colors of flowers to press.

Pressed flowers make a fantastic spring craft. Display them or give them as gifts!

• Freshly picked flowers
• Paper Towels
• Picture Frames

• Heavy Books

Instructions

1. First, gather some flowers. 
2. Layout your flowers on two layers of paper towels.
3. Gently press them into place.
4. Cover with 2 layers of paper towels. Then smash them in a large book.
5. Weigh them down with whatever you have around and put them out of the way for a few weeks. (These are those vintage art books)
6. After you have waited at least 2 weeks gently open the books and pull out the paper towels.
7. Next just play around with your layouts.  I moved mine around quite a bit deciding which flowers I liked etc.  When you have a good idea of what you like, open your frames and place them directly on the glass.
8. Then place paper and layer in extra padding (magazine pages) to make it nice and tight when you close it.

Aluminum foil craft idea

I received an email from another student’s parent at school, J’s teacher’s birthday was coming up. Since we were leaving I wasn’t going to go out and buy something for her, but I thought we could make a card with some ‘effort’ instead of just crayons and paper.

I had seen something on Instagram where a mom had let her daughter draw on foil with permanent markers. I was weary, permanent marker and kids can equal disaster. The effect it created was cool, was it worth the risk?

This aluminum craft idea is made by my 6-year-old son! You will see through the post that they shimmer and bounce the light so well. It is hard to capture the full effect of pictures, but they are beautiful!

Create beautiful foil flowers using permanent markers and aluminum foil. It's perfect for making cards or decorating a classroom.

• Aluminum Foil - Cut into 3"x3" squares
• Permanent Markers
• Quilling strips or thin strips of construction paper

Instructions

1. Start by coloring the square with 2 different colors. One color will be the inside and one color with be the outside.
2. Fold the squares into triangles, keeping the colors on the outside. Trim away the edges if necessary.
3. Fold the triangle corners up. Then fold back the outside corners.
4. Add the quilling strip or strip of construction paper to make a stem.

How to Make Giant 3D Rainbow Paper Flowers

Cut 1″ (or wider) paper strips in rainbow colors and an additional green paper strip for a flower stem. 

Using a giant hole punch, cut a circle from black construction paper. We used a 1.25″ circle puncher. It’s important for the circle to be wider than the paper strips. 

 Align the paper strips and punch holes on both sides. On 2nd the green paper strip punch only one hole for the top part where it connects with the petals. Punch a hole in the middle of the black circle as well.

Place the black circle on top of the stacked rainbow strips and thread a pipe cleaner through. Flip the flower over and thread through the second hole to form the flower petals.

Add the green paper strip for a stem. Coil the pipe cleaner on top of the black circle. Flip and secure the pipe cleaner on the back of the flower. Cut any extra pipe cleaner using scissors. 

Place a piece of white construction paper on the table. Apply glue to the back of the stem. Glue it onto the white paper.

Fold the bottom of the green paper strip, apply glue, and glue to the paper. This will form a leaf. Separate and arrange rainbow paper strips to form a flower head.

How to make these construction paper sunflowers for kids

Cut yellow construction paper into strips using a paper cutter. Make the paper strips in different widths. 

We cut few 0.75 inches wide and some 0.5 inches wide. It’s important that the paper strips are wide enough to punch a hole using paper puncher. 

Pick some paper strips that are the same width, stack, and align them. Punch holes on both sides.

Take a brown pipe cleaner, fold 1/3, and flatten a little piece to create a stopper for the paper strips.

Pick one of the wider paper strips, fold to connect the ends, and slide the pipe cleaner through both holes. Repeat with other paper strips. Note: we are adding paper strips on the longer part of the pipe cleaner.

For the center of the sunflower, we want petals to be a bit shorter. If needed, shorten a few strips with scissors and punch holes again. Thread on the pipe cleaner, the same way we did with wide and long yellow strips before. 

When you add all the paper strips, use a brown pipe cleaner to create the center of the sunflower. Coil it into a circle while pressing the center.

Flip your sunflower over to add and secure a green pipe cleaner on the back. This will be the stem. 

Arrange petals a bit if needed. And, you are finished. You have made a lovely giant paper sunflower! Pretty, isn’t it?

How To Make Easy Rainbow Paper Flowers

Start by cutting construction paper into 0.5-inch strips. Make at least one strip from each color of the rainbow. 

Stack all the paper strips and align them. Cut them in half. You can make 2 flowers from one paper strip length. 

Stack and align paper strips again. Punch holes on each end of the strips. 

Fold a pipe cleaner in half. Make a little piece in the middle flat. This will help us to stop paper strips from sliding off paper cleaner. 

Push the pipe cleaner through one of the holes of each of the paper strips. Follow the order of the colors on the rainbow. 

Now thread the pipe cleaner through the second hole. Reverse the order and start with last paper strip you added. Repeat with all paper strips. 

Fold the pipe cleaner into a circle to form a center of the flower. This will also help keep paper strips in place.

To finish these rainbow paper daisies, spread the petals and arrange them with approximately similar space inbetween.
