I am not a spider person. If one creeps its way into my house, it’s dead.

But these simple spider crafts are simply too cute to pass up!

Crepe Paper Spiders

I didn’t realize until this year just how many spider crafts we had created! I guess if you add googly eyes on them they are just cute enough to make for a fun Halloween craft for kids.

A couple of years ago, we created these simple paper tube spiders. This craft takes that craftivity up a notch by adding crepe paper.

These little crepe paper spiders are great for little fingers. They get to tear and crumple up streamers which is sure to be fun!

Supplies to make spiders out of streamers

• Black Streamers. You could also substitute tissue paper.
• Cardboard Tube.
• Scissors.
• Black Marker.
• Black Pipe Cleaners.
• Googly Eyes.
• White Pipe Cleaners. You could also substitute yarn.
• White Glue.
• Hole Punch.

How to make these fun Halloween spiders

Start by coloring your cardboard tube with your black marker. As much or as little as they want.

Next, snip little holes along the edge of your tube to divide it into 3 pieces. No need to measure.

Then slide the scissors in the holes and cut all the way around. This way you keep the nice round shape of your tube.

Now take your hole punch and create a spot for your web and legs. Start with one hole in the top of your web. Then 4 holes on each side. Try to get them pretty close together so the legs come out the sides of your spider.

Cut each of your black pipe cleaners in half. Your white can be cut to any length depending on where you plan to hang your spiders. Here it is cut into thirds.

Add a web through the top hole and pinch tightly on both sides.

Then add in your legs. Have them go all the way across the spider’s body and out the other side.

Go around and bend each of your spider’s legs.

Now it’s time to start filling in the body.

Rip off little squares of crepe paper, crumple them into balls, and then add them into the spider’s body.

Continue this until it’s full.

Then take your white glue and circle the spider along the edge.

Fill in the center area too.

Finally, place down your googly eyes.

Lay them aside to dry, this takes awhile. When the glue is all completely clear you can hang them up!

The pipe cleaner is perfect for hooking your spider on just about anything!

Black Construction Paper Quilling Spiders

We are having fun with all of our friendly construction paper spiders! Whether they are bouncing or climbing they have been a hit in our home.

We decided that we wanted to use one of our favorite techniques from Construction Paper Crafts for Kids. It’s perfect for little hands to take the first steps towards quilling!

Supplies for quilled construction paper spiders:

• Construction Paper. Black, white, and green.
• Paper Cutter.
• Craft Stick.
• Googly Eyes.
• White Glue.

Create your Quilled Halloween Craft

Check out these simple step by step instructions, to create your quilling spiders, and then watch the quick video at the end to see it all in action!

Start by cutting your black construction paper into strips. A paper cutter makes it easier to keep them all even. If you want the legs to be thinner, you can cut a few skinny strips too. Just set the legs to the side for later.

Take one strip and use a dab of glue, at one end, to create a circle and glue it to your green paper.

Use your craft stick to roll up a strip of your paper.

Holding the paper tight, dab one end into the glue and then place inside your circle. It will pop open a bit, and that’s ok!  (in fact my daughter loves watching this process!) Repeat this step until the circle is full.

Next, add legs on the outside edge. Glue them so they are sticking straight up from the side.

Use your craft stick to fold them over towards the paper.

Don’t forget to glue on a couple googly eyes! Last, add a little strip of white to create your web.

Trim and you’re done!

Bouncing Construction Paper Spiders

When your child learns a new papercraft technique they can find lots of fun ways to use it.

One of the chapters in our book, Construction Paper Crafts for Kids, we show how to create a spring out of paper.

This makes it so you can make something bounce! In the book, we did flowers, today using the same technique to make spiders!

Supplies for Halloween Spiders:

• Black Construction Paper.
• Circle Punch. We used a 1″ size punch
• Paper Cutter.
• White Cardstock. (for some reason the white in most construction paper packs is a bit thin for this)
• Glue Stick.
• Googly Eyes.
• Marker.
• Extra Sheet of Paper. This will be used for the base, we chose green.

How to create your Construction Paper Halloween Craft:

These are the step by step instructions.  If you would like to see the whole thing in action, take a look at our video below.

Start by punching 2 circles and cutting a long skinny strip out of your black construction paper. Next, cut a half inch wide strip from the length of the white. Cut your thin strip of black paper into 8 legs. Cut the white strip in half and set aside for later.

Add glue to one of the circles and place your legs along both sides.

Using the same glue, attach the second circle on top of the legs.

Googly eyes and a smile give him a fun friendly look!

For your ‘spring’ take your 2 white strips and glue them together to create an L shape. Fold the strips over themselves.  Back and forth.

This will make a smaller and smaller L shape.

Once you get to the end glue one side down, trim if needed, and fold the last piece up.

Glue the spider to the tab on the white paper.  Then glue the spring onto the paper.

Climbing Construction Paper Spiders

We love creating crafts that you can play with after! We have quite a few of these climbing spiders hanging on our windows in our home.

It is always the first thing my daughter shows her friends when they come over.  It’s a fun and cute Halloween craft that is perfect for fall!

Supplies for your spider craft:

• Black Construction Paper.
• A Cardboard Tube.
• Yarn or String.
• Hole Punch.
• 2 Beads. You want ones with bigger holes for threading and ones that are bigger than the hole punch.
• Googly Eyes.
• Black Marker.
• Glue Stick.
• Tape.

How to make a Halloween spider

See the whole process in under 2 mins in the video at the end of the post!

Start with creating an oval and 8 legs from your black construction paper.  The oval needs to be large enough to cover your paper tube.

Glue the legs on either side of the body.

Flip the construction paper spider over and add on some googly eyes and a little smile.  Look how cute he is!

Punch 4 holes in the paper tube.  2 holes, across from each other, on both sides.

Cut a long piece of string/yarn.  You can make your string as long as you want, however, the spider will only climb as far as your child can pull the strings apart.

Use a small piece of tape to create a “needle” on one end of the string.  (check out the video below to see how we did it.)

String on one bead and pull all it all the way to one end. Then tie a knot around the bead.

Thread the string through both holes on one end of the tube and then back through the other side.

Finally, add the second bead and tie off that end.

Glue your spider to the front side of the paper tube.

Hang him from the top of the string. Make sure it’s low enough for your kiddo to reach it.

To play, take one bead in each hand and pull out to the sides (not down).

You are sure to have loads of these climbing construction paper spiders all-around your house by Halloween!

Spider craft with pipe cleaners

There may only be one thing that I like better than a fun craft that my little one can help with. That is when you can tie in a fundamental skill in the process! This spider craft with pipe cleaners was so fun to make with V.

They are perfect for learning through play and since we don’t glue down the legs this can be played with over and over again! She can continue to take them apart and put them together again. Working on fine motor skills every single time!

This easy spider craft with pipe cleaners will make a fantastic non-scary Halloween craft for kids.

Prep Time 5 minutes

Materials

• A toilet paper tube. One tube made 5 spiders!
• Black marker.
• Pipe cleaners. 2 per spider.
• Googly eyes.
• Optional string or yarn to hang.

Tools

• Scissors.
• Hole punch.

Instructions

1. Start by letting your little one color your toilet paper tube. You might need to assist by holding it for them. Then cut into equal strips. Again, I cut out 5 from my single toilet paper tube.
2. Next, pinch in half and punch out 4 holes. Then reshape into circles.
3. Cut your pipe cleaners in half and hand over to your little one. Have them put all 4 legs through both sides.
4. Then bend the legs to shape however you like and glue on googly eyes.

Notes

With each leg, they will get better and better.

I know, I know, I said that I was done with the Halloween crafts and posts, but I just can’t help myself! I am feeling extremely inspired this year and I have to share with you!

This cute spider web wreath is perfect for creating on your own but easy enough that the kiddos can help you.

Plus, you don’t have to break the bank by getting a bunch of supplies.

Your kids will love gathering the sticks needed to create this Halloween craft. Plus you can sneak in some fine motor skill building when they wrap the t-shirt yarn around them.

This DIY Halloween wreath is perfect for hanging on your front door.

Materials

• 4 sticks. The 3 main sticks need to be the same size. (No longer than the width of your door.) The 4th stick can be smaller.
• A ball of t-shirt yarn made from one large white shirt (See how to make t-shirt yarn here).
• Plastic Spider

Tools

• Hot Glue Gun

Instructions

1. Start by using your hot glue to connect the 3 longer sticks together so they are visually pleasing to you.
2. Glue down your t-shirt yarn in the center of your web. Begin by wrapping it around the center a few times.
3. Next, start working your way out from the center. Wrap the yarn Over-Under-Over each stick working your way around the web.
4. Once you get to the outside, secure the end with a little more hot glue. Leave some extra string at the end for the spider to dangle from.  Attach your spider with more glue.
5. Take the 4th stick and break to fit along the top. Glue in place.  This stick will be used to hang your spider web wreath.
