During the Thanksgiving holiday, we create loads of fun turkey crafts. What I love about this turkey puppet is how easy it is to play with afterward.

Kids can craft this turkey and then put on a fun Thanksgiving puppet show or place the sticks into a decorative vase for a fun Thanksgiving centerpiece.

Tips for making this puppet on a stick

• Make sure your kids hold down the feathers to the count of 10. This will give the glue time to set a bit and prevent the feathers from slipping too much.
• If you are working with young kids, you may want to cut the small pieces out first.
• Don’t have googly eyes? Just draw on some fun eyes or use white paper.

Print

Grab the turkey template and create this fun Thanksgiving puppet!

Prep Time 5 minutes

Active Time 15 minutes

Materials

• Colored Craft Paper
• Craft Glue
• Craft Feathers
• Googly Eyes
• Craft Stick
• Turkey Template

Tools

• Scissors
• Pencil

Instructions

1. Trace and cut out the paper pieces from the provided template.
2. Attach the wattle onto the head and attach the legs at the bottom.
3. Add the beak onto the face by overlapping the top end of the wattle a little. Also, attach the googly eyes.
4. Flip the paper turkey to its wrong side. Grab some colored craft feathers and attach them on the backside of the paper turkey. Make sure that the feathers are visible from the front side of the turkey. Mix and match different colored feathers to make a fun pattern. 
5. Attach the wing cutouts on both sides of the turkey body part.
6. Finally, attach the paper turkey onto a craft stick.

How to make a simple paper turkey

Below is our step by step tutorial for creating this simple paper turkey. Feel free to print it for easy reference.

Thanksgiving turkey craft that builds scissor skills

Print

This adorable Thanksgiving turkey is perfect for preschoolers who need cutting practice.

Prep Time 5 minutes

Active Time 20 minutes

Total Time 25 minutes

Difficulty Easy

Materials

• Construction Paper. Red, Yellow, Orange, & Brown.
• White Cardstock.
• Googly Eyes.
• Tape. (optional)

Tools

• Scissors
• Glue Stick
• Black Marker

Instructions

1. Start by cutting paper strips. Lots of strips. The width doesn't matter.
   You will also need to make a body out of your brown. Either draw your child a peanut shape for them to cut or you can do this part for them. You also need a beak and a snood, yep that’s what it’s called.
2. Now pull over your white piece of cardstock and have them paste on their strips. They can go any which way they like.
3. They can cut them shorter or even tear them to fit in blank spots. Just have them keep going until they have covered as much of the paper as they can.
4. Give your paper a moment or two to dry. During this time you can put together your turkey’s body.
5. Now flip over your cardstock and plan out your feathers. Place your turkey body in the center as a guide and make a big, upsidedown, teardrop.
6. Then add two more in the opposite direction on each side and cut them out.
7. Use a bit of glue to hold them together.
8. If needed, add a piece of tape to the backside for more support.
9. Turn it back over and attach the body.
10. You can leave him like this or attach the turkey to another piece of white cardstock.

Turkey Rock Craft

We love stone painting a lot in our house… but as you know we also love construction paper crafts for kids! We blended our two loves today to create this fun and friendly turkey rock craft!

Supplies for a Thanksgiving rock craft:

• Rocks.
• Construction Paper. Red, orange, yellow, and brown.
• Googly Eyes. White paper and black ink could work as well.
• Glue Stick.
• White Glue.
• Scissors.

How to make a turkey with rocks and construction paper

Check out the step by step instructions for this turkey rock craft.  Then see it all in action in the quick video below.

You always want to start your rock crafts with washed and dried rocks. Grab your red, orange, and yellow construction paper and create some tail feathers.

You can create as many as you like, but I like having an odd amount so you can work with one in the center.

Next, fringe cut the edges of your feathers. This is a great way for your child to work on their scissor skills.

You can stack them to do this or if your child is younger they can do this one at a time. Whatever is easiest for them. Pick your center feather and start working out.

Using the glue stick add each feather in a fan style shape.

Now to create the head. Use the brown to make a body. Add a couple of googly eyes and use some scraps to create a simple triangle beak and crook.

Flip over your tail, add a bit of white glue to the back of your stone, and place on your tail feathers.

Add more glue on the top of the rock to attach your head.

Place the head/neck so that it curls under the rock a bit. Make sure to add a bit of glue on the bottom to help secure it.

Each turkey rock craft will all be different because no two stones are alike!

These guys would look cute on a kid’s tablescape for Thanksgiving dinner or could keep them busy while you’re cooking on Thanksgiving day!

Tips for making a turkey out of paper

• Having a paper cutter handy for this craft saves a lot of time. 
• Cutting thin strips isn’t very easy for young kids. We recommend cutting them ahead of the craft.
• Let the kids mix and match the strips into sets of 3 alternating colors.
• Remind your kids to count to 10 while gluing. That gives the glue a chance to set before they let go.

Easy paper turkey craft

Print

Create this easy paper turkey with your kids. It's a great craft for a Thanksgiving Day party.

Prep Time 10 minutes

Active Time 10 minutes

Total Time 20 minutes

Materials

• Construction Paper
• Googly Eyes
• Glue Sticks

Tools

• Paper Cutter
• Scissors

Instructions

1. Start by prepping your strips. With each color, you will need 2 of each size strip: 1/4″, 1/2″, and 1″
2. Let them mix and match the strips into sets of 3 alternating the colors. We only used 5 sets of strips, but they can glue them all together in case one doesn’t come out right.
3. There are 2 ways you can have your child glue these together. I show both in the video.
   
   First, try adding a dab of glue only at the end of the strip. Line up the next layer and repeat with the third.
   Once, those dry they can lift up the layer and add glue to the rest of the strip. Having the secured edge helps them lay them down straight without too much difficulty. 
   
   In the second technique, they can just swipe their glue stick in a straight line, grab their next color, and place down. Which method you choose will depend on your child.
4. When all your strips are prepared, create an arch shape on your paper and lay the layers face down.
5. Next, glue the ends together creating a teardrop shape. Start on the outside and work your way to the center.
6. Using your brown paper create a turkey body wide enough to cover the base of the tail.
7. Add googly eyes, a beak, and a snood.
8. Glue the turkey body to the bottom of the loops.

Quilled Turkey

Are you looking for a fun turkey craft for your kids? We love creating cute turkeys from paper.  Add in a couple of googly eyes and you have a cute Thanksgiving craft that your kids will love creating!

How to make a Thanksgiving day papercraft:

Check out these step by step instructions to create a quilled paper turkey.  Then you can see it all in action in the video below!

Begin by cutting 3 brown strips that are one inch wide. Next, cut some red, orange, and yellow paper into 1-inch strips.

Create 3 tail feathers by gluing the inside edges of the brown strips together making a tear shape.

Glue all three tailfeather pieces together.

Glue them down to your backdrop using the white glue.

Now for the quilling! Grab a strip of the yellow, red, or orange paper and hold your craft stick at one end.

Use the stick to roll the paper. Slide the paper off of the stick and dip the end in glue.

Place the glue side of the paper into one of your feathers.

Continue doing this in whichever pattern you want.

To create the body of your turkey, cut out a peanut type shape with the brown paper.

Use leftover paper to create a beak and snood. Add a couple of googly eyes and you’re good to go.

Use your craft stick to add a touch more glue and attach the body to the feathers.

Quilling is a beautiful technique that adults use to create amazing pieces of art. Letting your little ones learn this process can spark endless creative opportunities for them! Not to mention it is an excellent fine motor activity too.

This is my favorite of our construction paper turkeys.

We have fun melted crayon turkeys and fine motor turkeys that we have shared with you in the past. However, this paper turkey just has an extra wow factor to it.

• Construction paper. 1 sheet red, orange, yellow, & brown.
• Optional! Use our template instead of construction paper.
• White glue.
• Googly eyes.

Tools

• Paper cutter. (Not necessary, but it makes these types of crafts super easy!)
• Stapler.
• Scissors.
• Clothespin.

Instructions

1. Start by cutting your red, orange, & yellow construction paper into 1-inch strips.
2. Then break them into 5 groups of 5, alternating colors in whichever way you like. Next, stagger the ends down about an inch each color. Flip-up one end of the stack and cut the ends even.
3. This will leave them all at different lengths. Bring all of the ends together in a teardrop shape and staple.
4. Repeat 4 more times. Creating 5 teardrop-shaped feathers.
5. Next, place a dab of white glue between at the base of each feather and staple them from both sides.
6. Secure with a clothespin until dry.
7. While your turkey feathers are drying, take a piece of brown construction paper and draw a turkey body.  Then cut it out.  Add on a couple of googly eyes. Using your scraps, make a beak and a wattle and attach with a small dab of white glue.
8. Once the tail is dry attach your body with glue and you’re done!

Turkey sun catchers

These turkey sun catchers craft can be done by little ones of all ages!

We have used this process before to make rainbow bookmarks, apples, and pumpkins. It was no surprise that V enjoyed doing it again to make some festive turkeys!

Not only is she creating an adorable Thanksgiving craft, but she’s secretly building her fine motor skills in the process!

Supplies for fine motor turkeys:

• Construction paper. Fall colors.
• Googly eyes.
• Contact paper.
• Scissors.
• Marker.
• Hole punch.
• Tape.
• White glue.

How to make a construction paper turkey feather suncatcher:

Start by drawing 5 feather shapes on your contact paper. These don’t need to be perfect, think about a teardrop shape.

Next, peel off the backing and secure it to a surface with tape.  Make sure that it is sticky side up.

Taping them to a window or glass door works well to let the light through.

Punch a bunch of dots out of your construction paper.

Then place the dots inside of the feathers. This is an amazing fine motor activity!

Add in dots until you have the feathers filled in.

Now place another piece of contact paper on top of the feathers. (Sticky sides together)

Cut apart your paper to make a square around each feather. Press out any air bubbles in your feathers then cut out the feather completely.

Fan out the feathers and tape them together on the backside.

Then add a turkey body! Use scraps of paper from your dots and a couple of googly eyes!

Use white glue or tape to attach your turkey’s body and you are done!

This cute little turkey suncatcher can be placed on a window or on your fridge to add a nice touch of Thanksgiving to any space.

Melted crayon turkey

This is a craft that you may want to prep ahead of time, but you can help your little ones create.

It’s super easy and your children are going to love to watch the crayons melt to create a beautiful turkey feather.

Be careful.  This craft involves a hot iron and adult supervision is needed.

Supplies for your melted crayon craft:

• Autumn colored crayons
• veggie peeler or crayon sharpener
• wax paper
• construction paper (Brown, Red, & Orange)
• an iron
• googly eyes (optional)

How to create a turkey suncatcher

These are the step by step instructions.  Afterward, you can watch it all in action in a short video.

Preheat your iron to level 3.  Then start shaving your crayons. You don’t need much!!

Pull out a sheet of wax paper and fold it in half with the shiny side inside. Sprinkle the crayon shavings on one side. Not too many!

Then close it like a book and set the iron on the paper.

Cut your feathers out of your new crayon filled creation. You can cut as many as you want. This turkey has 5.

Using some construction paper, cut out your turkey’s body (about the shape of a bowling pin), add a couple googly eyes (or white paper with black ink), a beak, and a waddle and you are good to go!

Flip the turkey onto its belly and attach your feathers on the back. I use Elmer’s glue and one piece of tape.

Your melted crayon turkey suncatcher is done!!

The light shines through them so well. We hung ours on the back door in our family room!

My kids favorite part is watching the crayons melt into the cool design.
