• Green Constuction Paper Scraps
• White Cardstock
• Decorations- Colored Paper Scraps, Sequence, Stickers, etc.
• Foam Spacers

Tools

• Scissors
• Glue Stick
• Pencil
• Green Marker
• Hole Punch

Instructions

1. Start cutting your green paper into small pieces for your tree.
2. Use a pencil to draw a triangle onto your white sheet of paper.
3. Using your glue stick start adding a layer of green paper scraps inside your triangle.
4. Add some foam squares around your tree.
5. Using a green marker add some extra pine needles around your tree.
6. Place more green paper scraps on top of your foam spacers.
7. Now decorate your tree! Use a hole punch with colored paper to make ornaments.

Learn how to make a paper Christmas tree out of construction paper.

Materials

• 2 Sheets Green Construction Paper
• Colored Paper Scraps
• 1 Sheet White Cardstock

Tools

• Paper Cutter (optional)
• Hole Punches
• Scissors
• Glue Stick

Instructions

1. Start by cutting the green paper in half lengthwise. Leaving you with 4 equal sheets of green paper.
2. Fold the sheets in half and cut into tall triangle shapes. Make sure the fold is in the middle.
3. Use your scissors to create a fringe cut along the cut side of the paper.
4. Pull apart all 4 fringe cut trees. Add a strip of glue on one side of the seem.
5. Then add a folded tree lining up the sides. Continue until all 4 trees are glued together in a folded in half stack.
6. Glue to paper one side at a time.
7. Fluff apart fringe edges of your tree.
8. Next start to decorate. Use a hold punch to make ornaments. Then attach with glue. Make sure to add them all the way out to the edges.

So we may be borderline obsessed with paper Christmas trees. My daughter would make a new one each day if I let her!

This Christmas tree papercraft is perfect for the little ones. You can use it to decorate a card, a classroom, or a mantel.

Supplies for a paper Christmas tree

• Construction Paper: Green, Background Color, a scrap of brown, and yellow.
• Paper Cutter.
• Glue Stick.
• Star Punch.
• Scissors.

How to make a 3D Christmas tree

To get started, you’ll want to get all your paper prepped.

Cut the green into 4 strips from the short side of your paper. Each strip should be 1/2″.

The background paper only needs to be about half a sheet of paper (about 9″ x 5″)

You can scale this design to create larger trees or smaller ones too! 

Attach the green strips end to end using a dab of glue. 

Glue one end of your, now long, strip of green paper near the top center of the background paper. Glue it diagonally, so that the corner creates the top of the tree.

Then place a dab of glue right below your tip. Fold the paper across the center leaving a bit out to the left. 

Add another dab of glue, in the center, and fold back from the right. 

With each fold you want the tree to get wider. As you move down the tree lower your dab of glue in the center a bit more, creating a wider gap between rows. 

When you get near the end you want your last limb to be straight across the tree. Then fold the last piece back to the center. Trim if needed. 

Add on a trunk and the star using some paper scraps. 

I like the simple look of this Christmas tree papercraft. You could add decorations with additional construction paper, sequins, or even glitter!

How to make Christmas ornaments using sticks

Start by cutting or breaking your sticks. 

You will want to make them smaller and smaller to create a tree shape. 

Then cut your wet foam so your sticks hang over the edges a bit. 

If your paint is thicker thin it out will a little bit of water first. Then dip both sides of each stick and place back in the foam.

Tilt your paint a bit to get up the sides more if you need. 

Now over your paper bowl add glitter to both sides of your sticks. 

Make sure to do this when the paint is still a bit wet. 

Give your sticks plenty of time to dry. using hot glue assemble your tree. 

Add clear string for hanging with a bit of glue.

Your kids will LOVE creating these fun tree-shaped Christmas ornaments. From collecting the sticks to giving them as gifts.

Christmas tree-shaped ornament

Start by trimming your pipe cleaners into 4-inch pieces. You can use 2-3 pipe cleaners depending on the final look you are going for. 

Using hot glue, attach the pipe cleaners around your tea light. Make sure not to go over the edge of the bottom. 

You can pinch the top to see how the tree will look.

Then attach a decorative ribbon around the outside. 

Place beads along each of the pipe cleaners. This is a great fine motor skill-building activity for your little ones.

Take and pinch together all of the pipe cleaners at the top of your tree. Give them a good twist. 

You can stop here if you plan to place them out for decoration. Or add on a clear string for hanging them on the tree. 

Make sure to flip the switch and watch the light shine through the beads.

Looped Paper Christmas Tree

We love creating 3D paper crafts for our readers. This 3D looped paper Christmas tree is a fun new twist that still packs the wow factor when it’s done!

Last year we had our 3D paper Christmas tree take off online and go viral! For those that created the tree, we wanted to bring you something new! 

Supplies for a construction paper Christmas tree

• Green Construction Paper. Cut into .75″ strips the long length of the paper.
• Yellow Construction Paper. Just a scrap piece will do.
• White Cardstock
• Paper Cutter. Or you could use scissors.
• Glue Stick.
• White Glue.
• Decorations. I used red and green sequins. You could also use punches of paper or even glitter… if you dare.

How to make a 3D Christmas Tree Craft

To prep for your little ones take some time to cut out the strips. If they are old enough they can help with this step.

Using your glue stick add a dab to the end of 4 of your strips. 

Pull up the opposite end and then stick them together creating teardrops. 

Add a couple of dots of white glue. 

Attach your decorations. 

Now place all 4 loops decorations down onto your piece of cardstock. You will want the tops close together, and allow the bottoms to fan apart a bit. Then attach the tops using your glue stick.

Repeat for the second layer using only 3 strips of paper. 

Then 2 strips. Then 1 strip at the top. 

You should have a few more paper strips left. Cut these in half and create 3 half loops to fill in the spaces at the bottom. 

The final touch, add on a star!

Pipe Cleaner Christmas Tree

We just love when you can sneak in a learning activity into a craft. Fine motor skills are such a vital part of childhood, and this craft helps to build those little muscles while your preschooler creates a craft they will be proud of.

There is a good chance that your crafting cupboard has a stash of pipe cleaners… and probably some beads too! Well, you’re in luck because today you can use some of them up with this adorable pipe cleaner Christmas tree activity!

Supplies needed for this Christmas tree activity

• Green Pipe Cleaners.
• Beads. I loved using gold beads, but any will do.
• White Cardstock.
• Hole Punch.
• Tape.

How to make this preschool Christmas craft

Turn your cardstock landscape and punch a hole in the top center. Then along the bottom punch holes.

I did 5 for my tree, but you can do as many as you like. Just make sure you have a green pipe cleaner for each hole you punch along the bottom.

Start by putting all of the pipe cleaners through the top hole just enough to fold them over.

Secure them in place with a piece of tape.

Now you can start beading. Let your preschooler add as many beads to each pipe cleaner as they want.

With the wire center it is very easy for them to do and an excellent fine motor building activity.

As each green pipe cleaner is full to their liking you can put it in through the hole along the bottom.

Continue until all of your green pipe cleaners are poked through the bottom holes.

Now flip over your tree and fold the extra pipe cleaners up the backside of the tree. Pull them snug to help them keep their shape and fold them up towards the peak to help them keep their direction on the front.

You could leave your tree just like this. Or you can trim the sides of the paper off.

Either way, this pipe cleaner Christmas tree craftivity is sure to be a winner with your preschooler!

How to make scissor practice Christmas trees

Start by turning your cardstock landscape. Then fold it in half once and then on the left side fold it in half again. If you can, avoid creasing all the way to the edges only in the middle. 

Cut out half of your Christmas tree. Then set aside.

Next, start cutting paper strips. You will need a lot of green. You can do some strips of your other colors and punch out holes. And create a star for the top of your finished tree.

Now it’s time to glue down some strips. Start at the top of the right half of your cardstock. 

Work your way down until that side of the paper is mostly green.

Now start to add on decorations. You can peek at your tree from time to time by folding over the triangle to see what will show.

When you are happy with your tree, add glue to the left side of the paper.

Fold over and press down.

Quilling Christmas Tree

Perhaps one of the most adaptable crafts from our book Construction Paper Crafts for Kids is our quilling for kids. You could do this craft to go with any theme! The results are adorable and it can spark a love for quilling in your kids, which can lead to endless projects in the future.

Supplies for this construction paper Christmas tree:

• Construction Paper. Green and brown for the tree. A few colors for decorations. We used red and yellow.
• White Cardstock. Any color will do but a thicker sheet for the base will help to keep it from curling or getting soggy.
• Craft Stick.
• White Glue.
• Glue Stick (optional).
• Paper Cutter.

Beginners guide to quilling

These step by step instructions for a quilling Christmas tree are perfect for anyone just starting out with quilling.  Then watch the video at the end to see it all in action.

Start by cutting your green and decoration pieces into 1″ strips.

Take 2 of your green strips and glue them end to end to create a circle.

Pinch the top and then 2 sides to create a tree-shaped triangle.

Secure to your paper using white glue. 

Now it’s time to start quilling. Use your craft stick as a guide to wrap your paper around.

This works great for little hands because the shape fo the craft stick helps to keep the paper from slipping. Slide the paper off your craft stick and dip it in glue.

Place inside your tree, don’t worry, it will unwind a bit.

Fill the tree with green quills.

Now you can add your decorations. Trim your colored strips in half, this way the quills are smaller. Add them to your tree until you like the look.

You can add them between or inside of the quills like we did at the top.

There is no “right” way to create this quilling Christmas tree. Trim a piece of brown paper to the size you would like for your trunk and let it dry!
