Sun craft for preschoolers

This simple sun craft is perfect for a group of kids. Use all yellow construction paper for an easy yellow day craft. Or mix orange and yellow for the perfect summer craft.

Tips for making this summer craft for preschoolers.

• If you need to save time you could have the shapes drawn ahead of time for the children to cut.
• They can also cut multiple sheets at the same time or even be precut.
• This sun can be created in many different sizes by simply adjusting the circle and triangle sizes.
• If you want to display against a wall, finish your sun with a full circle instead of the second set of half circles.

How to make these 3D suns

Below is our step by step tutorial for creating this simple summer craft. Feel free to print it for easy reference.

3D Hanging Sun

Using simple shapes create a fun 3D sun to hang!

Active Time 20 minutes

Total Time 20 minutes

Difficulty Easy

Materials

• 3 Sheets Yellow Construction Paper
• 3 Sheets Orange Construction Paper
• Yarn or String

Tools

• A Circle Shape to Trace
• Pencil
• Glue Stick
• Scissors

Instructions

1. Fold each sheet of paper in half. Then trace a circle onto one side of your paper.
2. Draw a triangle on the other side of the paper. Make sure to have the opening at the bottom of the paper.
3. Fold 2 more sheets of construction paper and add underneath. Then cut out the circles and triangles. Repeat with the second set of paper.
4. This should leave you with 12 circles and 12 triangles. Fold one circle in half like a taco shell. Then add glue.
5. Place the opposite color on top and fold to match the taco shape.
6. Continue the pattern until you have used half, 6, of your circles.
7. Then repeat. So you have 2 taco stacks.
8. Place one stack to the side. Open one stack so the inside is facing up. Add in 4 triangles. One in each direction.
9. Then place 4 more triangles, in the opposite color in between each.
10. Place your string using glue.
11. Then, using the matching triangle pieces, cover the string with glue and 2 triangles to secure in place.
12. Now take your second stack of tacos to finish your sun.
13. Fan it out and attach it with glue.
14. Lift and fluff the backside of your sun before hanging.

Tips for a memorable yellow food day

Make the most of your yellow food day with these quick tips.

• Yellow food can stain, though not as bad as other colors. Make sure your kids are wearing play clothes.
• Some of these foods are common food allergies, make sure that you are safe when choosing snacks for a large group.
• Some kids don’t enjoy trying new foods. Make sure to offer both common and new foods to help with their anxiety.

Yellow Foods List

1. Pineapple Rings.

Grab a can of pineapple rings. Blot off the extra juice and dust with some cinnamon sugar. Serve them whole or in smaller slices

2. Yellow Veggies and Ranch

I used yellow carrots, tomatoes, and peppers. Tip for picking out bell peppers: female peppers are sweeter. Look for 4 bumps on the bottom. These are better for eating raw.

3. Cornbread and Honey

Head to the bakery and find a loaf or giant muffins to cut up for the kiddos.

4. Lemon Jell-O Jigglers

These fun little treats are sure to be a favorite. Just mix one standard box of Jello into 1 cup boiling water. Pour into a small glass container and chill for at least 4 hours. To keep the portions small use a small cookie cutter, or raid the playdoh toys for small shapes! You use a lot less water to make them jigglers so keep that in mind when picking how much to make.

5. Tortilla chips with melted cheese

Yellow corn chips topped with some delicious melted cheddar or American cheese.

6. Bananas

Just cut up a banana for a quick yellow snack.

7. Banana pudding

Whip up a batch of banana pudding. Yum!

8. Lemons

This tart snack will test your preschooler’s tastebuds. Don’t forget to grab a picture of the pucker.

9. Lemonade

Wash down the yellow snacks with some lemonade.

10. Sweet Corn

Cut it off the cob, or let the kids nibble it as is!

11. Hard-Boiled Eggs

The yellow yolk may not be their favorite part of the hard-boiled egg. But at least it’s teaching them about the color!

12. Lemon Bars

Find a delicious lemon bar recipe or pick some up from your local bakery.

13. Yellow Raisins

These golden yellow raisins are a fun preschool snack.
