Blue Pastel Squares

Materials

• 2 Pieces Paper
• Pastels

Tools

• Paper Cutter
• Smudging Tool
• painters tape optional

Instructions

1. Start by cutting one piece of paper into as many squares as you like.
2. Place a stripe of your pastel along the edge of one of your cut out squares.
3. Use a smudging tool to pull the color onto your second sheet of white paper. You can secure your square with a bit of painters tape or hold with your finger.
4. You can also use multiple colors on the same square.
5. Remove the square to reveal your blue square design!

I have had the same soft pastels for years! I only bring them out from time to time because they can be a bit messy, but we always have a lot of fun with them. We did some fun rainbow hearts earlier this year so when V pulled them out again I wanted to make something just as fun.

Supplies for your Sof Pastel Transfers

• Soft Pastels.
• 2 Sheets of Paper for one transfer.
• Tape
• Printable Template (optional)
• Light Colored Pencil. Yellows, orange, or even white works best.

How to create with this fun soft pastel technique

Start by coloring a whole sheet of paper with the soft pastels. Mix up the colors and let them smear them all over.Once the whole sheet is covered lift and tap off the extra pastel dust. Then tape it down to the table. Place one of the printable templates, or a plain piece of paper, over the colored page and secure it with tape.If you’re using the template, color over all of the black. If you’re not using a template, draw on a design. Having a light colored pencil helps them see where they have colored.Once the whole design is colored remove the tape and flip over to show your soft pastel transfers!

As you can see some of the light colors don’t transfer as well. So you might encourage darker colors.You can reuse the pastel sheet for multiple transfers too!Your little one is going to love this process! It’s a great project when introducing pastels to beginners. You can even come up with your own designs! I created this one for V.Just remember the image will be opposite when you flip it over!

Soft Pastels Heart Art

The first time I used this art technique was back in elementary school.

Our mom was our art teacher, and I remember her showing us how to carefully pull the soft pastels around on the paper to create fun pictures.

I tweaked the process to make it really easy to do with younger children.

These rainbow hearts are a fun way to practice with a fun art medium while little ones learn about colors and exploring art.

They make amazing cards that you can give on Valentine’s Day or Mother’s Day.

 How to make beautiful Pastel Hearts:

Check out the step by step instructions to make these lovely pastel rainbow hearts, then see it all in action in the video below.

You can blend your pastels out or in to make your heart. First, I will show you details on blending in.

Take one piece of paper and cut out some hearts. Be careful to only cut out the hearts and not cut outside the hearts.

Tape the heart cutouts to the second piece of paper.

You want to make sure it is taped to the table, along with the paper, so it stays put while the kids are blending their pastels.

Pick out your heart colors and make dots along the surface of your template. If you’re making rainbow hearts, you’ll want to choose rainbow colors.

Then show your little one how to use the cotton swab to press onto the dot and pull the color onto the bottom piece of paper.

Using the same pulling technique as before, pull the color onto the paper.

When you are done carefully remove the hearts.
