This easy triangle craft is perfect for in the classroom. Learning about geometric shapes is an important skill for preschool kids to master. And using shape crafts is a great way to teach while playing.

Grab some cardboard to create the shape. Then paint them with secondary colors or decorate them as a Christmas tree.

You can use this easy cardboard craft in several ways.

Tips for creating this triangle craft:

These triangles are very simple. But here are some tips to help you along the way.

• We chose secondary colors. But you can let your kids experiment with colors.
• Try creating them using different shapes.
• Let them play with the different sizes too! They can have a red small triangle, a brown large triangle, and a green small circle!
• Younger children may need help cutting the cardboard. You can cut the triangles ahead of time
• Use a piece of painter’s tape to create a loop on the backside of your paint pallet. This holds it in place and is really helpful to younger painters.

Torn Cardboard Secondary Color Triangle Craft

Materials

• Cardboard
• Paint - Secondary Colors - Purple Orange Green
• Decoration Materials - Optional for Seasonal Twist

Tools

• Scissors
• Paintbrushes
• Pallet
• Painters Tap

Instructions

1. Cut your cardboard into triangle shapes. This may need to be done ahead depending on the age of the crafter.
2. Using the back end of the paintbrush, puncture the cardboard and slip the brush under the top layer.
3. Pinch and peel off the top layer of the cardboard exposing the inner binding.
4. You can also pull off along the edges.
5. Repeat on 3 separate cardboard triangles leaving some of the top layer in place.
6. Start painting in the solid spaces with one of your secondary colors.
7. Then, using a smaller brush, paint the lines left behind where the top layer was removed.
8. Paint a second coat on the solid areas if needed.
9. These completed projects can be used to talk about shape and color!
10. BONUS IDEA: Give your green triangles a Christmas twist by decorating them with anything you have lying around. Paper, glitter glue, rhinestones, etc.

Primary Color Spinners

Use construction paper to create this primary color spinner craft! Mix 2 colors at a time to introduce the idea of secondary colors.

Materials

• Construction Paper - Sheet of Red, Blue, and Yellow
• Yarn

Tools

• Circle Shape to Trace.
• Pencil
• Glue Stick
• Scissors

Instructions

1. Trace circles onto the construction paper. You will need 6 circles of each color to make all 3 spinners.
2. Cut out all of your primary color circles.
3. Separate the circles. For one spinner you will need 2 colors and 3 circles for each color.
4. Fold all of your circles in half. Like tacos!
5. Glue all of your half circles together into a stack. Alternating between colors.
6. Add more glue on the flat side of your color stack and center the yarn on the glue.
7. Add glue to the outer half circles and pinch them all together.
8. Fan out your circle to create a sphere.
9. Grab both ends of yarn and twist to see the colors start to blend together.
10. Repeat with the rest of your color combinations to create 3 fun primary color spinners.
