Valentine’s Day Paper Tree

We have made quite a few 3D trees, but I have to say this Valentine’s Day paper tree might just be my favorite so far!

I love that you can include the members of your family, friends, and even pets!

How to make a paper heart tree

Begin by cutting the brown construction paper into strips. Use the short side of the paper to cut 1 strip that is about an inch wide. 

The rest of the strips can vary in thickness.

The 1″ strip will be the trunk of the paper three. Cut this strip in half lengthwise.

Glue one half of the 1″ strip to your blue paper and start adding all of your branches. It’s OK to have them hanging over the edges a bit. 

Once all the branches are glued down, add the second half of the trunk to the top to help hold it all together. 

Cut the green paper to add a grassy hill. 

Grab the end of each branch and twist it a couple of times. Then glue the end onto the blue paper. This will give your tree it’s fun 3D look. 

Next, cut out hearts and add the names of family members and friends. 

Glue the paper hearts onto the branches. 

Add as many as you like!

Supplies for a paper winter tree:

Grab all the construction paper supplies you need from our Amazon shop!

• Construction Paper. Blue, Brown, and scraps for decorating.
• Paper Cutter.
• Scissors.
• Glue Stick.
• White Cardstock.
• White Paint Pen.
• Markers (optional for decorating)

How to make this paper tree craft

Start by cutting a piece of white cardstock lengthwise in a wavy white line. This will create your snow-covered hills. 

Next, cut your brown into paper strips. Create one thick strip for the trunk. About 1″ works well. Then start cutting the rest of the paper into thinner strips. I aim for 1/2 inch strips, but you don’t need them to be perfect.

Start by gluing down one side of your white wavy-cut paper. Hillside up. Then cut your trunk piece in half glue it down onto the hill.

Next, take the opposite side of your white piece and glue it hillside up, covering your trunk a bit. Trim off any paper that hangs over the edges. 

Start gluing down all of your brown strips to the top of your trunk. It’s ok if they go over the edge of the paper. 

When you have them all placed glue the second half of your trunk on top to help hold them all in place. Trim the top layer of the trunk to match the top of the hill. 

Now it’s time to create your 3d branches. Take a branch by the end and loop it 2 times. Then attach with glue onto your piece of paper near the edge.

This will force the strips to pop up off the sheet.

Now go around with a white paint pen, or brush and paint, and give your branches a little dusting of snow.

Dots in the background are fun too. If you do not have a paint pen have your child reverse their paintbrush to make dots with the back end of their brush.

Decorate your scene however you want. Add a house in the distance, kids playing around in the snow, or with a little snowman on the hill.

It’s a fun winter craft that kids will be proud to show off!

Paper Christmas Tree

Once your little one starts practicing with scissors sometimes it feels like there is nothing to stop them.

There will be paper strips and squares all over the place! But, scissor skills is a big one and it’s great that they want to practice… because you know practice makes…perfect!

How to make scissor practice Christmas trees

Start by turning your cardstock landscape. Then fold it in half once and then on the left side fold it in half again. If you can, avoid creasing all the way to the edges only in the middle. 

Cut out half of your Christmas tree. Then set aside.

Next, start cutting paper strips. You will need a lot of green. You can do some strips of your other colors and punch out holes. And create a star for the top of your finished tree.

Now it’s time to glue down some strips. Start at the top of the right half of your cardstock. 

Work your way down until that side of the paper is mostly green.

Now start to add on decorations. You can peek at your tree from time to time by folding over the triangle to see what will show.

When you are happy with your tree, add glue to the left side of the paper.

Fold over and press down.

These turn out so adorable and is such a great way for them to work on cutting paper strips.

3D Halloween Tree

Whether it’s spring, apple picking season, or fall we have had so much fun bringing you all of these 3D trees!

We have also been on a mission to help you use up the black construction paper at the bottom of your bin. This fun Halloween tree is the perfect addition to that mission.

Supplies for a paper 3D tree:

• Construction Paper. Black, blue, & white for the tree. Then orange, green, & fall colored scraps for the pumpkins and leaves.
• Paper Cutter.
• 1.5″ Hole Punch.
• Glue Stick.
• Scissors.

How to make a Halloween construction paper tree:

These step by step instructions will walk you through the process of creating your 3D tree.  Then watch the video at the end to see it all in action!

Start by cutting your black construction paper into strips. No need to measure, just make sure you have one that is extra wide for your trunk.

Take that wider strip and cut it in half lengthwise. Glue one-half down to your piece of paper.

Glue all of your branches to the top of your trunk.  Make sure they go straight out and in different directions!

Then glue on the other half of the trunk.

Use the 1.5″ hole punch to create a moon and attach it anywhere up in the sky. Now start folding your branches.

Just crease them back and forth 2-4 times each.

Then attach with a bit of glue at the end of the strip.

Make sure to hold down the branch and count to 10 to make sure it gets a good stick! Work your way around to every branch.  Before you know it you have a paper 3D tree!

When you are finished with your tree you can cut and add little leaves at the base.

To create a pumpkin, punch 4 circles. Glue down 2 circles, side by side, at the base. Then glue one on top in the middle. Cut and add a small stem. Using your last circle, use your punch or scissors to remove the edge on one side.

Place this in the center of your pumpkin.

Mix it up and make it your own! Bat in the moon, black cat sitting on the ground, keep a few leaves left on the tree… you decide!

Fall Construction Paper Tree

How to make your fall paper tree:

Here is the step by step instructions for a fall construction paper tree. Then watch it all in action in the video below.

Start by cutting your brown paper into a bunch of long strips. You do not need to measure their thickness, just as long as you have one the width you would like to use for your trunk.

Take the trunk strip and cut or tear it in half.

Use your glue stick to attach one-half of the truck to the blue sheet of paper. Set aside the other half of your trunk for later. Now, glue the rest of your strips to the top of your trunk.

Once all of the strips are attached glue on the other side of the trunk to hide and secure all of your branch ends.

Next, start to work your way around the tree branches to attach them to the blue background. Pick up the branch and loop it around twice then attach to the blue paper with glue. Teach your little one to count to 10 while holding the strip down. This way they are nice and secure.

Now it’s time for some leaves. Just grab some paper scraps of your favorite fall colors and cut out a bunch of simple leaves.

Time to start gluing.

It won’t take long until you have a fun fall 3D construction paper tree!

3D Apple Tree Craft

We had a video go bonkers on our Construction Paper Crafts for Kids Facebook page. It is this fun little 3D construction paper tree that is full of possibilities.

You can dress it up for any season or occasion. We did simple green leaves before and on today’s post we are turning it into a fun 3D apple tree craft!

Like many of our projects, this is an easy craft that we’ve snuck some fine motor skill-building into. You will also see your child working on their scissor skills.

You can use these construction paper trees for a variety of reasons. We hung our apple trees on the refrigerator. Here are some other fun ideas.

• Decorate a back-to-school bulletin board.
• Attach them to the front of a card for a teacher.
• Use them to talk about the different parts of a fruit tree.
• Hang them around your play room.

This tree craft is very simple. But here are some tips to help you along the way.

• If you are making a lot of trees, cut the strips and circles ahead of time.
• You don’t need to measure the thickness of the paper strips. Let your child experiment with thin and thick strips.
• If you do not have a paper cutter or circle punch, you can cut the pieces by hand.
• Making this 3d construction paper tree for autumn instead?  Cut out orange, yellow, and red leaves.  Is it a spring tree you’re looking for?  Create some small construction paper flowers.  Winter is the easiest.  Just leave the branches empty!

Materials

• Construction Paper. One sheet of each blue, brown, green, red.
• Glue Stick.

Tools

• Paper Cutter
• 1" Circle Punch
• 1/2" Circle Punch
• Scissors

Instructions

1. Start by cutting your brown paper into a bunch of long strips. You do not need to measure their thickness, just as long as you have one the width you would like to use for your trunk. Take the trunk strip and cut/tear it in half.
2. Use your glue stick to attach one-half to your blue sheet of paper. Set aside the other half of your trunk for later. Now, glue the rest of your strips to the trunk.
3. Once all of the strips are attached glue on the other side of the trunk to hide and secure all of your branch ends.
4. Pick up a branch and loop it around twice then attach the end to the blue paper with glue. Repeat this with each branch.
5. Cut out as many 1″ circles as you would like apples. Each apple will need half of a 1/2″ green circle. Finally, you need one thin strip of green paper.
6. Stack your red circles and cut a small indent in the top to create the apple shape. Cut your strip into little stems. Cut your green circles in half.
7. Using a glue stick, assemble the apples!
8. Trim all of the stems.
9. Glue them to your construction paper tree!
