With the 4th of July right around the corner, it’s time to break out the red, white, and blue crafts. Our kids love creating for this fun holiday.

Do you have fun traditions for Independence Day? We love to grill up some burgers or hot dogs, break out the deviled eggs, and serve up an easy dessert.

Of course, you have to have fireworks. From simple snakes to the spectacular shows.

But a lot of the fun happens in the evenings. Patriotic crafts are a fun way to kill time before the main event.

Firework Art

When the weather gets nice you start to think about all the fun summer will bring! Cookouts, pool days, and of course one of my favorites, fireworks!

If you love fireworks as much as me or are just looking for a fun patriotic craft four your kiddos, you will want to try this fun art project.

I found a way to create beautiful glittery fireworks, without all the mess that usually comes with the glitter!

Supplies for mess-free glitter fireworks

• Cardstock.
• Glitter glue.
• Washable Markers. Colors to match the glitter you choose.
• Large Hole Punch. You can use scissors too.
• Cotton Swabs.
• Painters Tape.

How to make this fun patriotic art project

Start by punching out a circle for each firecracker you want to create. Secure them to your piece of cardstock using a bit of painters tape.

Next, take your marker and color a few circles around the inside of your circle. Then add the matching glitter glue.

Using a cotton swab, pull the glitter off of the circle out onto the paper in streaks.

Creating a beautiful firework shape. The glue will pull a bit of the color from the marker as well making them show even better. You can even pull a trail down the paper to show where it shot off from.

Use a separate cotton swab for each color. Once all of your fireworks are done carefully remove the circle center and you’re done!

Your kids will love how they shimmer and sparkle, you will love that they can make something pretty with glitter without all the mess!

My kids have loved creating fun 3D flowers… Ever since we made rainbow flowers we have done them every possible way you can imagine… except Giant! Until now.

Supplies for giant construction paper flowers:

• Construction Paper. 2 sheets each of Red, Blue, & White.
• Something Circular to Trace. A plate works well.
• Scissors.
• Glue Stick.
• 1.5″ Circle Punch. Or something smaller to trace and cut out.

How to create red, white, and blue paper flowers

These are really quite easy to make. We made ours using colors for the 4th of July, but you can make these any way you like! Watch this quick 2-minute video to see just how easy they are to create!

Step by step patriotic flower tutorial

Start by tracing something to create six large circles. I used a plate. Then cut out the circles and fold each one in half like a taco shell. Use the 1.5-inch circle punch to create a center circle. Line up 2 of the same color pedals across from each other.

Next, start adding in your other pedals. Try to space them as evenly as you can. Glue down your center circle, this will help hold them in place to glue the backside. Flip over your construction paper flower and lift up the back petals and glue them to each other. Once you have worked your way around the whole flower you’re done!

Whether you are decorating for the 4th of July or you want some beautiful flowers for spring decorations these are sure to be a winner. Even younger children can help with a lot of the prep and construction of these!

Firework Art Project

The fidget spinner craze hit hard. Fidget spinners could be found in every corner of our house. And then the kids got over them.

Sure they still hold their purpose, for the people they were intended to help. But the craze is over, and I’m still finding spinners in random places in my house.

Fidget spinner art is a great way to re-purpose your dusty collection of fidget spinners. You can combine a fidget spinner with string to create a beautiful rainbow, or you can take them outdoors and let your kids make an amazing firework art project!

Along with amazing food, and fireworks; doing arts and crafts is one of our favorite 4th of July family traditions. This project can even be done outdoors, while people are waiting for the real fireworks to begin!

Tips for making this fidget spinner art.

• This project can get messy! We recommend creating outdoors or in a space where the mess wont be an issue.
• Before you get started, make sure you use a fidget spinner that can easily be taken apart for cleaning.
• Show your child to aim for the outside of the spinner. The force created while spinning will pull the paint away from the center.
• Let your kids experiment with dripping the paint while it’s spinning or add paint and then spin. It is all about the process! There is no “right” or “wrong” way of doing this art project.

Below is our step by step tutorial for creating this firework art project. Feel free to print it for easy reference.

Materials

• A Fidget Spinner. One you can easily take apart to clean.
• Water Based Paints.
• Water.
• Paint Containers. One per color.
• Pipettes. If you don’t have these medicine droppers work well too.
• Paper. You can use thicker paper if you are planning on saving a couple, but we used printer paper for a few.

Instructions

1. Start by watering down your paint. This will help them drip and splatter!I did not measure this… It was about a 2:1 ratio paint/water. Make sure you are able to squirt the paint.
2. Set your spinner on your paper and play!Your child can start with the paint on the spinner, or add paint as it spins.

When to make Firework art inspiration

• Create this firework art at your 4th of July party, before the fireworks, while everyone is waiting to light off the real thing.
• Teach about color mixing. The red and blue sometimes mix to create purple. Try other color combinations!
• Because there is no “right or wrong” way to create this project, it’s a lot of fun for younger kids. A preschool class will love making this project outdoors!

School is officially out. If there is one thing I know, it’s that summer is about to go flying by! Every year it seems shorter and shorter. My baby is turning 3 soon and then the next thing you know it will be the 4th of July! While brainstorming some patriotic crafts, we came up with this easy paper firework craft.  These are perfect for Memorial Day, Fourth of July, or any other holiday where you want to bring out the Red, White, and Blue.

What you need for your Paper Firework Craft:

• A Toilet Paper Tube. (One per firecracker)
• Scissors.
• Paint. Any colors will do, but we went with the traditional red, white, and blue.
• A paintbrush.
• Some sort of paint palette.

Making your 4th of July crafts:

Start by cutting slits up one side of your toilet paper tube.  The slits should be about an inch and a half each. (no need to measure) If your child is old enough you can let them do this! It is a great scissor practice activity.Then cut slits from the other side leaving about half an inch in the middle uncut. Press the long slits flat onto the table and fold the short slits back parallel to the table.

I used a bit of tape to hold them in place and let V go crazy painting them. Make sure to get them from every angle. The centers too.

This shape was fun for her to paint! After she was finished I moved the paper firework craft off to the side so they weren’t sitting in all of the extra paint.

I glued mine to the end of a few cake pop sticks to use as 4th of July decorations! You could easily hang these from fishing line, or even use them to create a festive wreath! No matter what you do with them, this paper firework craft is so much fun to do with your little ones, and costs next to nothing to make! A win-win when it comes to fourth of July crafts with kids!
