Paper Gnomes

There is something so cute about gnomes and they are popping up all over the place.

We created a fun paper gnome earlier in the season but wanted to make it a bit easier for the younger crafters.

So we are sticking with simple basic shapes to create this cute paper gnome scene.

Construction Paper Gnome Supplies

• Construction Paper. White, Brown, Green, and Gnome colors of choice.
• Scissors.
• Glue Stick.
• One Piece of Cardstock. This is to create your scene.
• Skin Tone Marker.
• .5″ Hole Punch. You could also use scissors here.

Simple shapes gnome craft

Start by cutting out basic shapes. If you need to trace these onto the paper for your kids that works too!

Rectangles for the bodies. 

Triangles for the hats. Line up the bottom of the triangle with one of the sides of the squares. This way they are the same width.

Then cut some brown rectangles for tree trunks and green triangles for treetops. 

Next to make the beards.

To make sure that the beards are shorter than the paper gnome’s body, set a body on the white paper. Use the body as a guide to draw a line across the bottom of the white paper.

You also want the beards to be the same width as the hats. Place the triangle onto the white paper and draw a few dashes.

If you are making more than one paper gnome, just accordion fold the white paper before you add your dashes. 

Then when you cut the triangle, it will cut multiple layers at once!

Cut a wavy line along the width of the same piece of white paper. This will be your snow! 

Now it is time to assemble your scene. Use a bit of glue to attach the snow to your background.

Then your trees. Glue the brown trunk down first.

Then add the green tops.

To create each gnome simply glue down a rectangle with a triangle hat right on top. It will look like a little house.

Next, add on the white beard triangle. 

Last, on a scrap of your white paper color a bit of your skin tone and punch out a circle for the nose. 

Add a dab of glue and place the nose halfway between the beard and hat. 

This creates such a fun little scene. You could easily turn these into holiday cards too!

Paper Gnome Craft

There is just something about Christmas gnomes. They are just so stinking adorable!

So cute I had to create a fun way for my little ones to make them to hang around the house for the holidays this year.

Mix and match these little guys in any color combinations you want. You can decorate their hats with stickers and pictures too!

A great way to use up some fun craft supplies that you have lingering around the house.

Supplies to create gnomes out of paper

• Construction Paper. White and a color for the clothes and hat.
• Scissors.
• Glue Stick.
• Skin Color Marker.
• Gray Marker.
• White Cardstock.

How to make Christmas gnomes

First, cut out a really tall skinny triangle with a scoop off the bottom. You will also need a half oval shape for the body.

Next, using the hat and body as a guide draw out a beard onto your white paper. It should be almost as long as your body and the top should be the width of the hat’s bottom. Add in plenty of streaks of gray to give it a hair look.

Color in an oval with your skin toned marker and cut it out along with the beard.

Paste the body off to the side on the piece of cardstock.

Line up the beard and the corner of the hats to see where you will need to color in the face. 

Fill in that area, it should be a long skinny oval shape.

Then glue on your beard and your hat.

At the top of your page fold your hat off to the side, add a dab of glue, and then fold down.

Add on your nose and draw on two little eyes.

Then he’s finished! Well… you should make him at least one friend. You could make this paper gnome in all different sizes.

They would look great on a homemade Christmas card too!
