Crepe Paper Spiders

I didn’t realize until this year just how many spider crafts we had created! I guess if you add googly eyes on them they are just cute enough to make for a fun Halloween craft for kids.

A couple of years ago, we created these simple paper tube spiders. This craft takes that craftivity up a notch by adding crepe paper.

These little crepe paper spiders are great for little fingers. They get to tear and crumple up streamers which is sure to be fun!

Supplies to make spiders out of streamers

• Black Streamers. You could also substitute tissue paper.
• Cardboard Tube.
• Scissors.
• Black Marker.
• Black Pipe Cleaners.
• Googly Eyes.
• White Pipe Cleaners. You could also substitute yarn.
• White Glue.
• Hole Punch.

How to make these fun Halloween spiders

Start by coloring your cardboard tube with your black marker. As much or as little as they want.

Next, snip little holes along the edge of your tube to divide it into 3 pieces. No need to measure.

Then slide the scissors in the holes and cut all the way around. This way you keep the nice round shape of your tube.

Now take your hole punch and create a spot for your web and legs. Start with one hole in the top of your web. Then 4 holes on each side. Try to get them pretty close together so the legs come out the sides of your spider.

Cut each of your black pipe cleaners in half. Your white can be cut to any length depending on where you plan to hang your spiders. Here it is cut into thirds.

Add a web through the top hole and pinch tightly on both sides.

Then add in your legs. Have them go all the way across the spider’s body and out the other side.

Go around and bend each of your spider’s legs.

Now it’s time to start filling in the body.

Rip off little squares of crepe paper, crumple them into balls, and then add them into the spider’s body.

Continue this until it’s full.

Then take your white glue and circle the spider along the edge.

Fill in the center area too.

Finally, place down your googly eyes.

Lay them aside to dry, this takes awhile. When the glue is all completely clear you can hang them up!

The pipe cleaner is perfect for hooking your spider on just about anything!
