Make these silly monster rocks with your kids and some simple rock painting supplies! They are perfect for an afternoon of crafting or a fun Halloween craft.
Monster Rocks
Painting rocks with your kids is always fun… but, sometimes the mess isn’t.
I like to let my kids paint, but there are days that I wouldn’t really want to get out all the paint, brushes, aprons, and pallets.
Then you have to clean up after. Some days they only paint one rock!
My favorite solution, paint pens! We love to use them for painting rocks because clean up is a simple as putting the caps back on!
So grab some paint pens and give these monster rocks a try!

How to paint monsters onto rocks:
Check out these step by step instructions for painting monster rocks. Then you can see it all in action in the video below.
If you want you can base coat your rock before putting on your monsters, but this is not necessary. I just had base-coated rocks lying around from a different project.
Pick out what color of monster you want to create. Choose at least 2 different pens.
Start by creating a burst out from the center of your rock.
Alternate colors back and forth until the rock is covered in the middle.
Next, add arms and legs, as many as you want.
Add a few more hairs to cover where the arms and legs come off the body.
Then add a mouth and eyes.
When adding the white use a dabbing motion so you do not pick up the color from underneath. The pens dry pretty fast, but you can still pull up the color if you aren’t careful.
You can add eyebrows or even a mustache if you want.
Finish your monster rock off with a black dot for pupils and any teeth your monster may need. Then you’re done!
