Tips for making this easy nativity craft for preschoolers

• It may be easier to cut the tissue paper into squares before beginning the craft. Especially if time is an issue.
• Teach kids to count to ten while gluing. This way the glue has a chance to set.
• Show your kids how much glue is needed for the tissue paper. Seeing a visual may help save some glue.

How to make a paper nativity craft

Below is our step by step tutorial for creating this religious Christmas craft. Feel free to print it for easy reference.

Crumpled Paper Nativity Craft

Print

Your whole class will enjoy this simple nativity craft for kids.

Prep Time 15 minutes

Difficulty Easy

Materials

• Template
• Tissue Paper
• Googly Eyes (optional)
• White Glue

Tools

• Scissors
• Colored Pencils

Instructions

1. Print the template and cut out each of the pieces.
2. Cut your yellow tissue paper into squares.
3. Cover a portion of the star in white glue. Crumple pieces of tissue paper and stick them down into the glue. Repeat until the star is covered.
4. Repeat this process for the Joseph, Mary, and Baby Jesus bodies.
5. Glue the body pieces to the star.
6. Using a colored pencil, draw faces onto the circles. You can either draw on eyes or use googly eyes.
7. Finally, glue the faces onto the bodies!

Tissue Paper Flowers

I have had this adorable butterfly hanging around my house for a couple of years now. The bright colors just pop and I love how it makes me think of spring all year round.

My daughter loved making it, which made me wonder… why didn’t we ever do more! So we decided to whip up some fun tissue paper flowers this spring.

I love how this craft combines simple supplies with fine motor skill building. Your little one will never know that they are building important lifelong skills while creating a beautiful flower.

Supplies for fine motor flowers:

• Toilet Paper Tubes.
• Hot Glue Gun & Glue.
• Parchment Paper.
• Tissue Paper.
• Scissors.
• White Glue.
• Yarn or String.

How to create toilet paper roll flowers

Check out these step by step instructions for creating these fun tissue paper flowers. Then see it all in action in the video below.

Depending on how old your child is, there may be a small amount of prep.

First, you need to make your flowers. Start by cutting your tube into circles.

I cut one tube into sixths. Then using the second tube I cut off one more ring for the center. You will need 7 circles total.

Using your hot glue, attach the circles together to create a flower.

You can let your little one do this with white glue, but you will have to wait for it to dry completely to move on.

You will also need to attach your yarn or string with glue too.

Next, cut your tissue paper into small squares. 2 inches and under will work best.

Then start to crumple the paper into balls and place them into the flower!

Keep adding until each petal and the center is full.

Now take and drizzle white glue all over the back. Go in circles in each petal, back and forth from the center out, and even swirl it around all the edges. Set aside to dry. 

When the glue turns clear that means your tissue paper flowers are dry and ready to hang!

They look pretty in the windows or hanging over your desk. The perfect way to bring a touch of spring to your home.

Tissue Paper Christmas Rocks

Before you start wrapping your presents this holiday season trim off a few pieces of tissue paper to make these fun tissue paper rocks! Make patterns or pictures with your strips then hide them around!

Supplies needed for decorating rocks with tissue paper

• Rocks.
• Tissue Paper.
• Mod Podge.
• Foam Brush.
• White Paint.
• Acrylic Spray Sealant. (Optional for outdoor placement)

How to use tissue paper for stone painting

Check out these step by step instructions for tissue paper Christmas rocks.  Then watch it all in action in the video below.

Start with washed and primed rocks. A good coat of white paint really helps the colors pop! Your kids can help prime the rocks, just make sure to give them plenty of time to dry before you start adding your tissue paper. Add a thin layer of Mod Podge to your rock and start adding your strips.

Add another thin layer of Mod Podge on top of the tissue paper.

Trim the edges and continue across your rock.

Tuck under all your edges and secure with a bit more Mod Podge. Let dry and add another layer of Modge Podge to make sure it is sealed well. If you are placing your painted rock outside you will want to add a waterproof sealant on top. 

You can also create pictures with the strips! We did this tree and a little present. You can also cut the tissue into dots or squares. There are so many ways you can create using this technique!

Tissue Paper Pumpkin

Will you be placing a teal pumpkin on your porch this year?

The past few years we have had one out, and this year is no exception! In fact, we will have a few because they have been a lot of fun to create!

Today I’m sharing a fun and simple technique the kids can help out on. You could make these tissue paper pumpkins in any color you like to match your holiday decor too!

Supplies for your teal pumpkin craft

• White Pumpkin. I used a few different pumpkins and they all worked well.
• Teal Tissue Paper.
• Hole Punches. I used a few different sizes.
• Modge Podge.
• Foam Brush.

How to make a tissue paper teal pumpkin

Check out these step by step instructions and then watch it all in action in the video below!

Start by punching holes out of the tissue paper.

This might not be as simple as punching out regular paper…maybe I used too many pieces of tissue paper, but a few times I would have to pull the paper to get the last bit out.

Since we will be layering our circles it doesn’t hurt the end result if a few aren’t perfect.

Once you have a handful of dots it’s time to start applying some Modge Podge to your pumpkin. Lay a dot down and add a bit more Modge Podge to the top.

Space your dots apart first then go in with your next set and layer them. It will give a darker tone the more layers of dots you lay.

I worked from larger dots at the top to smaller ones at the bottom on my large pumpkin.

When you are happy with the look set it to the side to dry!

You can mix up the tissue paper pumpkin and make a pattern around the center, dots from the bottom up, or even cover your whole pumpkin!
