Easy forts to make at home

I love it when my young kiddos can play together independently. I can hear them giggling from the other room and it makes my heart melt.

Their favorite thing to do together is to play in a fort.  But they’re still too young to build a fort themselves, so I’m asked…almost every day…to build a fort.

These easy forts to make can be built in 5 minutes or less.  A couple of them are so easy that Little Miss can help out!

Cool forts to build inside

If you think you know how to build forts you should still check these out! These quick alternative setups might just be an easier go-to method than what you are used to!

Make sure you have a fitted sheet handy. We have a red one that has been designated the “fort blanket”. The corners on the fitted sheet make it possible to get a good hold on your designs.

1. Toddler Bed Fort

This one is the easiest…but you do have to have a toddler bed to pull it off.

Take two corners, on the shorter side of a queen size fitted sheet, and place them over the back corners of the toddler bed.  Pull the blanket forward and place it over the front corners.  Done.

2. Table Fort

Kids love sliding around under the table.

Push two chairs, that are across from each other, into the table.  Take two corners of your fitted sheet and place them over the corner of your chairs.

If your table is too big for just one sheet, then tuck another sheet under the corners of the fitted sheet.

Pull the chairs out from the table as much as the sheet will allow.  The kids love having the chairs as “shelves”.

The bonus to this fort is the inside pocket.  It’s always full of toys when we clean this one up.

3. Covered Wagon Fort

My kids are still a bit too young to understand this one, but Susie and I used to build these all the time as kids.

Place two sets of chairs facing the same way, one set in front of the other.  Drape the sheet over the back of both chairs.

The front set of chairs become seating for the front of the wagon…The back ones become the actual wagon.
