DIY Vinegar Cleaning Wipes

I’m sitting next to Little Miss, watching her eat soup.  Each spoonful, to her mouth, results in a small drip of broth onto the table.  Every spoonful.  Then I look over at Mr Monster and he’s “using” the spoon to spread the soup over the tray of his high chair.  None of this is unusual.  In fact, it’s so normal that I mindlessly reached for a bag of wipes and quickly wiped down the table and tossed the wipe into the quickly growing pile of discards.  When I take Mr Monster out of his seat, he gets a wipe down, with a wipe.  Then I take his wipe and clean off his high chair.  But I can never get it clean with just one wipe.  So I reach for another one.

 

I stopped, mid-wipe, and thought.
What am I doing!?!?  These are Expensive!!!!

 

So I went to the kitchen, grabbed my Norwex cloth, got it wet, and finished cleaning up.

 

The next day, almost like clockwork, I did the EXACT. SAME. THING!!!!

 

Why can I not stop using these expensive wipes?!?!

I’ll tell you why…because they are easy.

 

So…If I’m going to stop using these wipes, I’m going to have to replace them with something equally as easy.  Because the easy is always going to win.  Especially when it comes to cleaning.

I did a little brain storming.  About 90% of my house gets cleaned with either a Norwex Cloth or a spray of vinegar and water.  You really can’t make the Norwex Cloth any easier than it already is.  That leaves tweaking the vinegar and water method.

What I used:
1 Roll of Paper Towels
2 Gallon Ziploc Baggies
Cleaning Solution

The hardest part of this process was cutting the paper towel roll in half.

I used a bread knife and turned the roll as I went.

I didn’t bother cutting the cardboard middle, because I wanted to remove it anyway.

Find the middle, and pull it up so that it’s easy to grab.

Place the 1/2 roll in a gallon size Ziploc bag.

 

Add 3-4 cups of your cleaning solution.  I use a 50/50 mix of vinegar and water.

Pour it over the paper towels.

 

Close up the bag and let it sit for about an hour to really let it sink into all the layers.

 

Make sure you use a good, solid brand of paper towels.  I used the Costco brand. So far, they are holding up really well.Also, skip the “Select A Size” type rolls.  They lead to pretty small wipes.  They still work, but the regular size sheets work better.

Since you get two rolls of wipes out of one roll of paper towels, I can use them in different areas of the house.  I’ve placed one bag on the dining room table, to have handy for quick meal time cleanups and to wipe down the high chair.  I put the other one in the bathroom, so that I can do quick wipe downs of the bathroom.

 

Last night, Hubby informed me these were the best thing I’ve done since I started blogging!  Awe!

Have you ever tried to make wipes before?  I’ve seen baby wipes on Pinterest, but never thought to take that plunge.  Anyone tried those yet?
